Why should I care? |

Late Shift is a decent interactive film that helped revive the format. |
You’ll be caught in the night
As part of my preparation to give a talk at MAGFest on FMV games, I knew I had to at least dip my toes into the rather substantial body of work of Wales Interactive. No one to my knowledge has developed and/or published more interactive films in the last decade or so than they have, but I had not gotten around to any of them myself.
Because of the great deal of work I did for MAGFest, I’m somewhat disinclined to continue to rant about these games on my blog, but rest assured I’ll be posting the video of the talk as soon as it becomes available.
To keep it brief, I’ll just say that Late Shift is a decent little branching-narrative heist movie and not much more than that. It features much better acting, writing, directing, etc. than the FMV games of generations past, but it’s still nothing to write home about. Nevertheless, it was one of Wales Interactive’s early critical and financial successes that helped prove to them that this could be a lucrative format for them to continue to invest in. I love video games of all kinds, so it does mean something to me that these continue to exist. Thanks, Late Shift, for helping to keep FMV alive.
